It seems to us that the fashion industry lives for the win-lose.
Whether it’s unethical factories, environmentally unsustainable products or mark ups that defy all logic, the desire for luxury can sometimes mean lowering your moral standard.
But what if things could be different?
Avery Verse was founded on the belief in the win-win. This is the idea that everyone can get what they want. It is not always easy to achieve but at the heart of our company there is a desire to find a better way.
First and foremost then was the environment. To create leather bags is to invite a measure of scorn from the environmentalist, however in our research we discovered a great option for one desiring a win-win.
Vegetable tanned leather is a process that has been around for 6,000 years. The practice sees the use of bark, branches, fruits and natural products to ‘tan’ leather hide. This is in contrast to chromium tanning which is a harsh chemical that leaves all products virtually non-recyclable. According to one study, 90% of leather bags are chromium tanned.
Now, is vegetable tanned leather a perfect solution?
Absolutely not! And we are transparent on this. But it is still safer and more environmentally friendly than the alternative.
You can get a gorgeous leather bag, we can partner with a fantastic manufacturer with unparalleled craftsmanship, and the industry itself can continue its journey towards greater sustainability.
That’s a win-win to us!
